Default Landed at Coutts Today

Had to hold off for the last couple of days because of the blizzards down south, but finally made the drive from Calgary to Coutts POE today.

Not the most scenic of drives but who cares.

The US customs went smoothly, just advised the customs officer that we were flag poling we were asked if anyone in our party had been arrested and were then directed to the office where another agent copied our passports and prepared a US removal document that allowed us to drive out the car park take a sharp left and enter the Canadian customs without leaving Canada.

The Canadian customs officer was not very user friendly, but eventually gave me a piece of paper to present at the CIC desk. Once at the desk the immigration officer was very good and only asked:- Address, telephone # and whether we had been in trouble with the law.

Total time at customs was about 1 1/4 hours, total drive time was 7 1/2 hours.

Hi Journeyman

I'm about to do the same trip tomorrow (Friday) from Edmonton. Stopover Calgary, then go to Coutts Saturday.

Was it really that easy? I have two young kids and figured this the better option than flying. We can go to the zoo too!

What about paperwork (proof of funds, house ownership, car details), did you have to show any of that? Obviously we have all of it so better take it, but just wondered do they look at it.

Anyway, best of luck fella.

Its really that easy, and there are six of us 4 of which are children. The mistake we made was not bringing any US coins for the vending machines as they don't accept $ Cdn. Whilst filling out the forms the US customs guy almost signed himself out of the US and joked that the Canadians would arrest him as he had a side arm. We took everything just in case the immigration officer insisted on seeing proof of funds after all whether or not you are granted entry is at their discretion (but seeing as you don't officially leave Canada its just a rubber stamping exercise). All they looked at were the passports and COPR and paid special attention to spelling and DOB and thats it. We have been in Calgary for the last 20 months purchased house a couple of motors both in employment etc, etc. So maybe some link up with revenue Canada which omits funds question.

Good Luck with the trip to Coutts,
BTW we stopped at Lethbridge on the way home for dinner and to rest my ears

Thanks Journeyman - that helps.

We've been in Edmonton for the last year - pretty much to the day in fact. So we've now got our papers and need to get them stamped (as you put it). Doing that Saturday. Leaving tomorrow though to break the journey. Like you, kids in the car can have an adverse effect of your hearing!

Thanks again and good luck!
