Smile Landed 1994

Hi All

New to this forum. We did our landing in 1994 and because of the job situation for my husband returned to UK in 1996. During the 2 years we bought a house in Ottawa which we still have. Now we want to return to Canada to sell. What is the rules of re-entry for old PR? Thanks.

Errm if you have only visited since 1996 then you lost PR years ago. Owning property or not has no bearing on your PR status.

What he said. ^^^^^

To have kept your PR status you'd need to have been in Canada for 730 days out of every 5 year period.

This might be useful reading - http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Catego...cy_Obligations

You can also find lots of info in the Wiki on visas so you can figure out if you can reapply for PR, as the eligibility requirements have changed massively since you first applied.

HTH.

Many thanks for your replies. We don't want to live in Canada we just want to enter as visitors to complete the sale of the house. As we were once PR and never cancelled our PR is there any restrictions on entering as visitors? We hold Irish passports so don't need visa.

Don't believe once having had PR will have any impact on your ability to enter Canada as a visitor.

Actually they would still be considered PRs, as they haven't renounced their status, nor have they been reported. It is quite possible on entry that CBSA would notice that they are still PRs, but haven't met the residency requirements. At that point the officer should, either report them, or have them sign a renunciation of their PR status. You may wish to read the following OB :http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resourc...2013/ob505.asp

Thx PMM. I didn't think PR's could renounce their status anymore due to a change in the law. But I clearly only skimmed that press release.
