Just thinking - help please!
Hi
we have just started to think about moving to Canada, probably British Columbia. Can anyone give me a list of useful websites to look at. e.g jobs and homes? Also, can you apply for temporary residence, and if we like it can we then apply for permanent??
many thanks

Hello lensgirl... to look at homes anywhere in Canada go to www.mls.ca and to look at jobs go to www.careerbeacon.com... about temp residency I am not sure if there is such a thing... I know that many people travel to Canada on a visit visa first ... they check things out and even get a job... after getting a job then you could apply for a work permit and stay legally ... that could be an option for you perhaps... but if you keep reading other people's experiences in this forum you will see that applying and eventually getting Perminent Residency is a very long, long process and if you are thinking of living in Canada permanently you should start the process sooner rather than later as you may be wasting precious time... good luck!

Lots of options to get there which depend on your circumstances...
What do you do as a job?
If you are on their 'jobs required' list then you could go on a work permit (this is the quickest way) or apply for Provincial Sponsorship. (Approx 1 year)
Straightforward permanent residency takes about 4 years to go through.
Look at the government web site for the province.
Have you checked how many points you have? Find this on the same site.
Hope this helps.

Hi
I am an accountant here, so my occupation is on the list. I have checked out the points too, so that is ok. I guess at realistic timescales we would be looking at about 2 years i suppose, from now to actual move. We are just about to buy another house so wont be until we have made enough money on the house.

I think Permanent Residency is the way to go. Just go to the
www.cic.gc.ca
website for all the forms (which you can fill in onscreen then print out)
Fairly straightforward with lots of documents to collate and a fee to pay. Notarisation of photocopies of your documents should only cost about £10.00
Police check less than £100.00 and Medical less than £500.00 on top of the application fee.
It will take you approx 40 months + but if you wish to go sooner you can apply for a work permit beforehand and continue your PR application whilst you are living in Canada. (there is an extra fee for this)
So I would think about applying now...
Good luck
