Talking just starting our journey from nz to ca

Hi
We are just starting our jjourney to ca. We arent new to this immigration business as we jumped down under to nz from the uk 5 years ago.
but we wanted a new challenge and new places to explore and if all honest living at the last stop on the end of world can feel very isolating! We explored south island and a bit of north island - well as much as finances allowed but its abit like "well is that it then.......forever........??"
so last year oh got a transfer to oz where we have family and we should have gone after christmas but everything went to custard and company laying people off (resession finally slowing things down over there) so they pulled out!
so we had spent nearly a year mentally leaving nz and looking up online and getting excited about new things in oz and now nothing.
So we are bipassing oz and going straight to canada where we always said we would go after our oz adventure and end up staying. Always said aslong as we are settled somewhere before kids get to secondary school then thats fine.
So there we are....decided on toronto and hopefully burlington and the fun begins again with paperwork and being very patient!

Just a few questions if anyone could help...oh started to apply for jobs but we were thinking of just sending off for pr anyway as we have police checks etc current from the oz nonstarter and we have mega points so thought it would be good to have it chugging away in background.

Just wondering how long things might take as i have trawled the forums and internet and am utterly confused!

How long after submit do you get accepted (initially it will hopefully be witgout job offer)?
how long if you have a job offer?
When do you then get asked to submit medicals?
then when to get pr?
And i think we will have to send things to sydney so things could be slightly different than to london uk but any ideas would be fab.

I must admit having been through it coming out to nz i look back and cant believe we came out with just work visas and got residency a few montgs later! Gamble!!!
Not doing that again with kids in tow this time so we wont be leaving till we know we can stay in canada

And hey a few years down the line we will get our third passport and i will seriously be giggling everytime i travel and feel like a spy which passport today.....

So any help would be great and is there a thread with a list of all the acronims? I keep having to google them

Just checking, but one of you has a job on the list of 24 eligible occuaptions then? It's just that you mentioned 'mega points', but obviously that isn't enough if you haven't got a job offer or job on the list.

Assuming you're talking about a FSW application (as you've mentioned points), both would take about the same, figure 12-18 months or so from start to finish.

At the end of the process, CIC will ask for them to be done.

HTH a bit, good luck.

Hi
thanks for replies. Yes OH has job on list a d think we would be going down FSW route.
Has anyone got any real timings for their applications please?

And what are people experiences of buying a property with a low deposit if we were to just gamble and come over on a work visa? Just keep reading and reading and want to come over so cant waif the 18 months

We said we could view it as an adventure for a few years a d get residency but if we didnt then go to oz to settle :@) or of course back to nz.

Just one thing is defo we are never going back to the uk

Oh and do you pay school fees if non permanent resident? And healthcare?

Oooo its soooo exciting

We applied in 2010. Took us three years. Many others have waited (or are still waiting) longer.
Now I think you might get through in 18 months, but that's speculative and assumes you get your application accepted before the new 2013 quota is used up!

FSW - Landing without a job?
Not quite what you are asking, but here is our experience in obtaining a mortgage as a new FSW immigrant without a job in Canada.
For purchasing property, when we came over (Feb this year) we had no credit rating here in Canada and had to put 35% down (deposit) as new immigrants.
That's what we were required to put down through Scotiabank. I think other financial institutions will request the same. For mortgage approval as well as the 35% down (as we were not yet employed in Canada) we also had to prove that we had at least 2 years of payments available in encumbered funds, over and above the 35% down. We only needed to prove that on application/approval. The funds were not frozen in an account, so have been available for us to use as we wish since we landed.

FSW - Landing with a job?
I believe if you are already in employment in Canada you would not have to prove 2 years payments available. Not sure about the deposit level for that scenario. It might still be 35%. Maybe someone else can fill us in on that

If you come over on a Temporary Work Permit , buy property, and ultimately cannot convert to PR then you'll have a nice holiday home in Canada!

OK, great. Bear in mind that you'll need to be submitting asap after the program opens on 4th May, so will need to get cracking! Get your IELTS booked and started gathering paperwork as soon as you can, as it's expected that the quota of 3000 applications will fill instantly.

What's his job? Do look in to what he'll need to do to get his qualifications and experience recognised to work in Canada as well.

And re: healthcare and schooling, have another look in the Wiki which has loads of info on those two subjects.

Good luck.
