Default interview location and moving

Hello,

I am wondering how long after one sends in the application for the
Canadian PR one usually gets called in for an interview? I know that
not all people are interviewed, but...

Consider this scenario:
1. A person lives in the U.S. and applies for the Canadian PR.
2. This person specified a U.S. city for the interview location in the
application
3. Some months later the person has to leave the U.S. and go to his
home country.
4. A letter specifying the interview time and place arrives and states
that the interview is in 2 weeks in that U.S. city that the applicant
specified.

What is the person to do?
Fly to the U.S. for the interview?
If the person has to move, is it possible to change the location of
the interview?
(e.g. from New York City to Vienna, Austria)
Does this delay the approval?

Thank you.

Default Re: interview location and moving

Interview time depends from many factors and varies by visa posts. If we are
talking about Buffalo (as your further questions indicate) then current wait
for the interview if one is required is about 2 years from the application date
(about a year to the assessment notice and another year to the interview date).

Unfortunately your scenario has one big hole - interview must be conducted by
the visa post processing the application, so the only option is to travel to US
to attend such. Under old law there was a simple possibility to transfer files
to another visa post - process was starting almost from the scratch in new visa
post and all processing time already taken was wasted, but at least case was
continuing in new visa post. But new law dramatically limited transfer
possibilities - transfer request can only be granted if such would enhance
program integrity and must be denied if such a transfer diminishes program
integrity.

Probably the only transfer circumstances which may be deemed as not diminishing
but enhancing program integrity are when request is made to transfer file to
the visa post responsible for applicant's country of nationality, providing
that most supporting documents submitted with the application (identity,
education and work credentials) originated also in such country.

So, not only no more faster visa post shopping my friend, but advance planning
and anticipation is required when deciding where to submit the application in
the first place.
