Immunizations
 

Hi,

Just a quick question for those of you who have landed (PR) in Canada recently. Do immigration check your children's immunizations when you land?

The reason for asking is that I'm sure I have red somewhere that children coming into Canada are expected to have the BCG. However as this is optional in the UK (some hosptals will offer it at birth and some don't), our eldest hasn't had it...

Hi jwsadler...we landed at Xmas, they didn't ask for it then. Just get a copy of what they have had jabs for by your GP. The record is really for starting school. If your landing and coming back to the UK it's not a problem, but your eldest may need it for starting school in Canada.

ps, my kids never had the injection either....:o

We were not asked for proof of immunizations when we landed.
Today I have received a questionnaire from our health dept. we are in Ontario and it states:
Students under 18 years of age attending Ontario schools must have proof of immunization against diphtheria, tetnus, polio,measles,mumps,rubella (german measles). We are required to have this information by law (Immunization of School Pupils Act 1990)
*If this student needs an exemption from immunization against any disease listed for medical, religious, or conscience reasons call the immunization team.

I don't know how it works elswhere, all mine have everything so I don't know what happens if you didn't.

If they haven't had an injection you will have to get it. My daughter had had all hers relevant in the UK but one of them she had done three months prior to being 4yrs old which is the age required here - she had to have it done again, although the doc who administered the injection said the school board were being totally OTT.

I know I'm a bad Mum but I can't remember all the vaccinations my son has had but I know BCG isn't one of them and it has never been brought up as being required. But he has had hepatitis immunization which some non-North Americans find strange
