Am I totally crazy or are the specifications for the spousal sponsorship immigration photos almost identical to regular uk passport photos?

The CIC guide (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3901e.pdf) states
"The photos must:
•measure between 25 mm and 30 mm (1” and 1 1/5”) from chin to crown;
•have a 35 mm x 45 mm (1 3/8” x 1 3/4”) finished size."
The UK home office website (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/agencie...photographers/) states
"...ensure that the measurement of the face from the bottom of the chin to the crown (ie the top of the head, not the top of the hair) is between 29mm and 34mm."
"photos must measure 45mm by 35mm"
so the only difference is face sizing, but the upper limit for canada is as the lower limit for UK. Right?

Which should mean for the 4 medical and 2 police check pictures I could just go to a regular photobooth, yes?

Sorry if these seem like stupid questions. I'm just terrified that if I'm not totally overthinking everything I'm being an idiot and doing everything wrongly.

Assume nothing. They're nearly the same but it's not worth having CIC grumble because you went to a photo booth. We went to a Snappy Snaps in London and brought the paperowrk with us. They read over it and gave us the correct photos. In our case, our checklist said to provide 8 photos; if we'd gone to a booth we'd have to get to sheets printed, which the booth doesn't give you the option to do, so you'd have 2x5 photos that aren't identical.

Play it safe, suck up the trip to a proper photographer and have them give you something that complies with the Canadian instruction, even if you think it's the same.

Consider yourself lucky you are still in the UK.

We're in Canada and we need 6 photos x 6 people at $10 for 2! Which with the HST comes to nearly $210!!!!

A bit of Googling never hurts. I just spent 5 minutes, here's what I found:

1) Online passport photo ordering services - $7.95 for a sheet of 6 photos: http://www.onlinepassportphoto.com/P...comparison.htm

2) Black's photography offers 25% discounts of families of 3 or more (though they don't say what the base cost is): http://www.blacks.ca/blacks/static.j...entID=passport

3) Google for independent places around where you live - found this coupon for a store that has locations around Toronto/GTA, 2 photos for $5: http://www.rapidphototoronto.com/passport.html

Good luck.

Thanks for that. But the online one is US not Canadian and the photos need to be so specific...
Then I live in the middle of nowhere so having covered Yarmouth I would need to travel 300kms to find a better deal which by the time I pay for the gas I might as well just pay more and avoid the hassle. $210 is by far the cheapest, that's $10 for 2 whereas we have been quoted $19 for 2 which is like nearly double!!!

Alrighty, photos acquired!
They look just as bad as any passport photos! yay.

The place I went (snappy snaps) didn't have a stamp to fit the photographs so they stamped the photo wallet instead. The stamp only has address/phone number, no date. I do have a copy of the reciept with the date on it though, is that ok? Or should I ask them to date and sign one of the photos?

I cant find the page with all the photo information on it (grumble) only the one with the size/colour requirements.
