Got nothing to do with it. Just another crackpot theory based on the specious idea that the Canadian government is out to fleece immigrants. Canada needs productive happy immigrants to drive its economy forward, especially where it comes to filling skills shortages.

Lawyers and consultants can help avoid errors and omissions and prepare the application documents quickly so they get our sooner, and they know your options. Its picky business but certainly doable if you have the time and patience. And DIY is certainly much cheaper.

I would agree and it seems the op has had so much conflicting advice from well wishing sources, that her requirement to go with a specialist will help calm the nerves and allow her and her spouse to see the one way forward they need.

I would agree with Iaink that whoever told you that CIC are more likely to accept common law spouses due to getting more tax is talking out of the wrong side of their rear end though
