If your Work permit runs out?
What happens if your WP runs out before you renew it? Do you have to leave immediately? Do you have 90 days to leave?

Yes, you must leave upon expiration of any permit or admission. There is no grace period.

Re: If your Work permit runs out?
When we first got here my hubby had a three month work permit, to get that renewed he had to pass an exam, the exam results came 2 days before his WP expired - he passed. As you can imagine it takes longer than two days for the issue of a new WP! Hubby telephoned the poweres that be and explained the situation, they told him to carry on working and they would send the new WP as soon as possible. He was without a WP for about three weeks, when the new one came it was dated to begin when the old one ran out.
I would not even suggest that you let this happen as there are no guarantees. Even what I typed sounds iffy, but that is how it happened to us. |
Re: If your Work permit runs out?
As long as you've applied to renew the WP, and application has been received by Vegreville before your current WP has expired, you can remain working in Canada on "Implied Status" until they either issue or deny your WP renewal.
This happened to me because positive LMO didn't come back until a few weeks before my WP expired. Not advisable to do this unless you're pretty sure that WP renewal will be approved. |
Re: If your Work permit runs out?
Does anyone know what happens if someone on a work permit gets fired? Do they have a grace period to find a new job and then apply for another permit or do they have to leave the country and come back as a tourist? (The person in question is a British citizen)
Thanks in advance :) |
