Default IELTS Exam tips

I am appearing for IELTS exam next week. Would appreciate tips on 'Writing-General Training' and 'Speaking' from those who have taken the test. Specific questions :

Writing - Which style i.e. formal (Intro with Thesis statement, Body paragraphs with topic sentences and conclusion) or informal writing (narrating a story/real life example with conclusion) gives better marking (need band score 7 at least)

Speaking - The responses to Part-I and 3 should be formal or some witty answers will also be yielding better band score?

I hope this will help other test takers also....

In he meantime, can somebody tell how many marks (out of 40) required for getting band 7.0 in Speaking Module.
