IEC to PR
Hello!
I got some wonderful advice a few months ago about the IEC visa which I now have and I’m planning on moving to Canada around October. However I’m still in the pool for EE and now that this has resumed I’m a bit confused about what this means if I get invited.
If I apply for PR while in Canada on my working holiday visa, will my status automatically change? I’m worried about putting it off or withdrawing from the EE pool because what if the processing times don’t meet the 6 month standard they’ve set or it takes longer than expected? Also I will lose points in April due to my age so I’m not sure what to do.
I guess the main question is, can I apply for PR while I’ll still have a lot of time remaining on my IEC visa?

Re: IEC to PR
Congrats on the IEC!
If you are granted PR, and then 'land' to activate your PR status, it will change then from IEC to PR.
No chance of 6 months at the mo, anything saying that is very out of date. Assuming you'd be applying under FSW, that's currently showing a 26 month processing time. Even if you qualify for CEC after a year working in Canada, that's still 13 months processing time currently. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...ing-times.html
That is due to the backlog from Covid and Ukraine, so hopefully it will come down considerably, but 6 months is likely to be unrealistic for quite some time IMO.
What are you scoring now, and what will you be scoring in late 2023 when you've lost points due to a birthday but (hopefully) gained them due to skilled Canadian work experience?
And yes, you can apply, and absolutely should do. Otherwise you'll risk having to leave Canada and/or stop working until you get PR, so ideally you want PR in hand before your IEC expires in 2024.
HTH, good luck.

I’ll stay in the pool then and apply when I’m invited and just hope that it’ll be processed by the time my IEC is up. You are such an asset to this forum christmasoompa!

And yes, you get a year from the date of your medical to activate your PR.
Also, just to mention the Bridging Open Work Permit - hopefully you won't need it, but have a look at that just in case you do, which would enable you to stay in Canada and keep working once your IEC expires.
HTH.
