IEC Extension and Health Insurance

I am applying to extend my open work permit whilst I wait for my PR to come through. One of the questions asks me to provide proof that I have extended my health insurance too, to cover the extension of the work permit.

I work full-time in BC and so therefore now have MSP. So does this count? Can I just show them proof of this?

You cannot extend an IEC permit unless an error was made when it was first issued, or your passport was too short when you arrived and has subsequently been extended (and, when you first arrived, you had insurance for the longer time). I presume these do not apply?

Ok sorry I should have clarified. My IEC work permit expires soon, so I'm applying for a new open work permit along with my PR application as a common-law partner. The document checklist for the new open work permit says "If you are a participant in the IEC program, provide proof of health insurance covering the intended extension to your length of stay in Canada."

Given what you've said, should I assume that this doesn't apply to me then?

"This only applies to IEC participants who want to extend their status as workers with the same employer and under the same conditions of their initial work permit."

You are applying for a new permit based on a spousal/common law application in Canada, so comments about IEC do not apply for that.

If you live in BC I can tell you that MSP changed their rules in July and no longer cover people on implied status so you need to get some private health insurance until the new WP comes through.

As has been pointed out: you are not applying to extend your IEC WP. Rather, you are applying to extend your status in Canada by applying for a WP in a different category (SCLPC Pilot), while your current status is still valid.
