Thank you so much for your answers! Especially the first one! I searched the website for hours and never found that.
Just one question on your second point. Its seem Ireland has a larger quota than, for example, the UK (7700 vs 5000) YET we have far fewer applicants (UK currently oversubscribed, and Ireland only has 529 applicants in the pool with 1847 sent out already!). Does all this not mean there is plenty of room to get a place and thus I can let it slide for a few months ? I assume it has to get close to 7700 before it gets risky...
I wouldn't risk it personally, but I'm not sure how quickly the visas for Ireland went last year. I guess all you can do is keep an eye on the quota page and see how many ITA's have been sent out (so far 1847, so still 5853 available, probably more if not all of those given ITA's accept them or are accepted themselves).

Nobody will know how many applicants are about to enter the pool, so all you can do is keep an eye on the numbers and see if you want to chance it. Is there a specific reason why you want to wait until 2018, could you not go sooner?

Ok thanks for all your help
Essentially I have a course lined up for the latter part of 2017 which I would like to finish before moving over. Whatever happens I cant start until early 2018. Worst case scenario, I go over and start the visa but come back to finish the course, and then return again when its finished. Problem with that is Im eating into my 2 years.

Also, remember they can close the program at any time regardless of whether the full quota is taken.

So i've been looking everywhere but i can seem to find out how many rounds of invitations there are? i found this from last year, it only says first and last rounds, does this mean i have to wait until next summer to find out? or will there be more rounds soon?

Also it says Quota: 5000, Invites Sent: 9,261, is this because say 4,261 people either didn't accept/got rejected after the invite so they invited more until they filled the quota? or did they just accept more than 5000?

And they only accepted 5000, but those were the total number of invites sent out - a lot will either be refused, or change their minds etc, so they always invite more than needed.

Rounds are random, but irrc it was about once a month last year, I assume it will be the same this year until all visas are gone, but nobody knows for sure.

If 9261 invitations issued in total, then yeah, with the 1000 extra, 3261 either ignored the invitation, didn't apply properly, or were refused for some reason. Bear in mind, they may be included in the acceptances as well, because you could re-enter the pool, and then be drawn again.

CIC added another 1000 to the quota near the end, so 6000 were allowed instead of 5000 (1000 were added to a few other countries as well - very generous of them!).

The arrangements are reciprocal. The low-seeming figure for UK citizens is probably a combination of (1) UK not wanting many to come over so not pushing for it to go up, and (2) not many Canadians wanting to go over, so not pushing for it to go up.

For now (until the UK decide how this will or will not work because of Brexit), Canadians with a European passport can come over and work without the need of the Tier 5 (the UK equivalent of the IEC)

It would be more the latter but not necessarily because they don't want to come over, it's because a lot of Canadians have dual nationality through descent.

Hi,
I received an invite to apply today so it seems even though the given dates for first round has passed they are still sending out invites?
