Hi Guys, I got my LOI a few weeks back...

The permit is valid until 1/16/2015 - Am I correct in believing that if I entered Canada on the 1/15/2015 that I would then be issued a visa which would be valid until 2016?

Correct, it would be valid for 12 months i.e. you would have to leave the country (or stop working) by 1/15/2016.

What were peoples experiences and methods of accommodation when they first arrived last year?

I'm guessing most people started in hostels then tried to find a flat of their own ASAP?

Does anyone have any news on the overflow submissions? Has anyone on the waiting list been contacted yet? I'm applying for my 2nd year and have number 6081 (totally caught off guard by the 2 month earlier opening!!)...

Stayed with GF's parents.

Finding a place for me in Calgary was tough, they look for job security etc but there are def places on Kijiji that are easier to get into.

I had friend here on her first year IEC so it wasn't too much stress for me. I would recommend getting into a hostel or cheap hotel. the beginning/end of each month loads of places go up for rent.

check out Kijjii or craigslist for apartments/rooms

I am waiting too. Applying for my 2nd year also (first one expires April 1) and I am starting to panic a little. I was also caught of guard by the early opening. My number is 5707. Fingers crossed we hear soon.

When does your first expire?

Hi KateC19,
Thanks for your offer of help.
I would just like to know 1)- could you describe the payment process?
And 2)- I am concerned that my server may let me down.Do you know how to choose the best server???

People seem to rate 'airbnb' for finding a room to rent. I've not looked at it yet but it's like couch surfing but you have your own room

So I just received my LOI!! So glad that it's finally come through and I can start to get my life sorted over here!

Becki, that probably means that you'll hear back in the not too distant future too!

Ok, now that I've received my LOI I'm making sure that I have all the correct documents for my re-entry into Canada. I have everything listed in post #1125, except for the proof of funds, which I have a question about.

Post #1125 says:

"Proof of $2,500 funds (bank statement issued no longer than a week before departure)"

I have that amount in £ in my british account (around £1400 according to xe.com), and can print off an online statement as proof, but have a feeling this won't be acceptable to immigration. Do I need to transfer it all to a Canadian account or will the online print-out in £ be ok?

I'd rather not have to take the money out if possible, but will if there's no other solution. Many thanks for your help!
