Hi

Our son has mild Asperger's too. We originally did medicals in August 2009 and these went off in Sept (had to redo one of tests). Within a month we had a letter asking for more info on our son. This took some time to sort out as he sees no specialists. This was sent off straight after New Year. I think it was about 3 1/2 months before we got the "Excessive Demand" letter. (You probably remember our case!)

Since we received confirmation that he is now admissible, we had to redo our medicals (as they had expired) - though strangely, just me, OH and our daughter. CHC confirmed they did not require our son to have another medical - which at least saved us a bit of cash.

Just to update, we had the new medicals at the end of October. We are currently waiting for our new police certificates to arrive then we'll get PPR.

Try not to worry too much, you may be lucky and not receive any Excessive Demand letters. I know how hard it is not to think about it so it is probably pointless me telling you not to worry!

for you!

I don't know how long it might be before you get an excessive demand letter but just wanted to say that I have everything crossed that you don't get any at all!

Lins do you know when the DM sent your med results back. We had ours done on 5th Oct and the Dr didnt send all the results back until 27th Oct. So 3 weeks went by with nothing happening. Our Lawyer told us it take's Ottawa 2-3 weeks to update London on the med results.

The usual is a month after CIC receive your medicals. If you don't hear anything within 2 months your usually okay.

What I would usually suggest would be a week after a month has passed, e-mail CIC to check they have received the medicals and ask when PPR is due to come out - they will then either respond saying they have recently sent you a letter (which would be the excessive demand) or with the usual no PPR's will be issued until Dec/Jan time.

Hi all,

Well you were all pretty spot on with your timelines on when we would hear about excessive demand/more info request...

As suspected, we got the dreaded brown envelope through the door yesterday requesting more information on our son who has Aspergers Syndrome. We knew we would get it, so shouldn't be surprised really.

I dont seem to have got a letter for my dodgy hips (one got operated on last weekend) but it may be in the post...

Is it standard procedure to get a request for further info before getting excessive demand letter?

We didn't get a further request letter Lins. When we had our medicals we gave the DMP copies of Amber's statement, Asperger's diagnosis and all her historical reports, i.e. S&L, Paed, Ed Psych, SENCO, school etc. We had our medicals on 26 Jan 10 and our 'Excessive Demand' letter was dated 22 Jun 10. What additional info have they asked you to provide?

Good luck, Joe

Joe,
dont know...its in a sealed envelope that we have to hand to original DMP
We gave them everything we had on him, which TBH wasn't an awful lot as he doesnt need any services now.
Perhaps they want to send him for an independent ed psych assessment??

sorry if this is a stupid question... but does this apply to spouses who are being sponsored as well? My husband has Crohn's and the Dr who did his medical seemed to think it shouldnt be an issue for us.

spouses are excessive demand exempt , when applying via spousal route so , no it shouldn't be a problem

Hi Lins, Sorry to hear you got the letter requesting more information. It's a shame it's in an envelope; ours wasn't and I only had phone contact with our DMP. I think you are probably in a similar situation to us, not having had much info to hand over at your medicals. We had to see and ed. psych. and a paediatrician. If there are no problems at school etc then you really need to get them to stress this in their reports and then hopefully it will not need to go any further. that you can get this sorted out soon. Thinking of you, it is a really stressful time, I know, but try not to let it get to you too much (easier said than done, I know).

Had confirmation that it is a request for psych assessement...IQ tests etc. I assume they would want us to use someone who does not already know my son...so its independent?
With our DMP now. More waiting. I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end.

Good luck Linsy, I'm sure will all be ok in the end, just another hoop to jump through.

Be careful Lins - don't put your back out as well!

Hope the next stage goes OK. Tests your patience doesn't it?
