Default Do I have to 'sponsor' my child if I am already Canadian?

Hi. I am born and bred Canadian and have lived in UK for a number of years.
My child was born here. I am divorced.

He has a canadian citizenship card and I presume that makes him fully Canadian?

Is it true, that I don't have to sponsor him as such?

Do I have to apply for his passport?

What makes my child a 'true' Canadian?

thanks

As long as he has Canadian citizenship he is a 'true' Canadian even though he may never have visited Canada.

My Husband is Swiss, me English (non EU) which entitles my children to duel nationality, i.e. two passports. I don't think you have to sponsor him, I would be very suprised if you did have to. I would apply for a passport for him, my children have both, it makes it much simplier when travelling to both countries. Hope this helps.

If you are going back to Canada, then it would be best to get him a Canadian passport, and, of course, you would need written permission from his father.

Yes, I'm with Mikelincs, it's going to be easier all ways round to get him a Canadian passport...he IS a Canadian, so he is entitled to a passport, just as he doesn't need you to sponsor him as he IS a Canadian

Except that he is probably a Canadian citizen by descent.

Even if child is Canadian, consent of the other parent or a court order may be needed to remove him or her from the United Kingdom.
