It all depends from many factors - your nationality and countries you
resided in as well as your background are the main ones affecting length of
background/security check. Such check may take anywhere from few months to
well over a year to conclude. Impossible to even guess your timeline as you
didn't provide any details about your nationality and countries you lived
in, sorry.

Your background/security check was initiated after interview was waived and
it may take quite some time (5 to 12+ months) as you lived in several
countries.

Dear Andrew Miller,

Thanks for your reply.
I'm just wondering why the embassy request for an updated Schedule
1(Background/declaration form). Are they doing another background check?

Thanks again.

Because you had to update your application to new law's standards. When you
applied you used completely different (old) forms and since March 31, 2003
all old still pending cases need to be updated.

If the interview is not waived, the background/security check is still
initiated only after the interview done?

Hi Andrew,
My timeline & correspondences from the embassy are very similar to Yang's. Does it mean that if the embassy figures out I don't have 70 pts under the new law by looking at the updated docs, they may still revoke my interview waiver?

Currently yes. Nobody will waste resources on unsure cases when there are
still tons of already positively assessed applicants who wait for conclusion
of their security checks.

If you applied before 2002 and got interview waiver prior to end of March
2003 then new law's selection criteria don't apply to you and you shouldn't
worry. Unless there are some facts discovered during background check and
verification of your credentials that may cause revocation of initially made
selection decision.
