It depends from many factors, but in average about 3 to 6+ months from
medicals, providing that background/security check is concluded by that
time. And it is irrelevant if it is in "old" or "new system".

Mr Miller is right in saying that it depends upon how much time it takes to do your background checking. I did my medical in Sep 2002 and still waiting for passport request. Received a letter from CIC that my background checking is going on and it would take 6-9 months. So just wait and watch, that is what an applicant can do.

Thanks for your reply.
I submitted my medical in CHC,Sigapore.Five of my classmates
got their visa just after two and half months of medical.

Does it vary from CHC to CHC?

However please answer me a very urgent question like-

I am planning to renew my passport in this month after submission of my medical on 30 March 2003 as my passport is going to be expired in August 2003.

So in that situation do I need to inform CHC, Singapore anyway?

My family had their medical on May 29th 2002. They still have not been
asked for their passport in Pakistan. I had sponsored them.

What will happen if their medical expires and their papers do not
arrive? What if in their new medical something shows up (I certainly
hope not.....)? Is there anything that can be done to determine the status?

If their medicals expire before visas are approved then they will have to
undergo new medicals.
