How do we keep it simple ?
 

Hello all

I would love to hear anyone's opinion on our situation.

We applied under the simplified process for SW in february at the Sydney office. Now it is said that good things come to those who wait but we can't wait. So we want to get a job offer and apply for a work permit so that we can get to Canada sooner and then hopefully speed up our application.

So I suppose my question is, is this a good idea or will this all just confuse the immigration department and end up delaying everything. Another quandary is that my husband will hopefully be able to get a work permit for IT without having to go through HRSDC. But to speed up our SW application we will have to go through them so what do we do ?

Hi Sharron, we also applied SW through Sydney office, can you tell me what timeline you were given? We were given 24 months last September.

If your husband can get a job earlier that's great, how can your husband avoid the HRDC, does he have a job that's in demand?

I have no experience of the SW process - however we did get a WP in less that the 6 weeks they say, and that included a medical for my husband that we were advised would possibly add a further 6 weeks (3 months total) to the process and it still all came back in 5 weeks. They have been great, bar the hour wait on the phone every time I have ring them! but we needed the medical forms asap and they sent them return of post by document courier and all went really well.

I would get a job offer if there is a chance of that, it would speed things up. I was certainly told that the 2 things could be done side by side - I have no doubt that it would be fine.

We are going to get to Canada and then start the PR process, we just couldnt wait here..............though with our house sale, we would have had time!! but at least we have all in hand so we can go as soon as able, that worry has been removed.

Well good luck!! I am really impressed with all my dealings thus far with the Sydney office - they are as motivated as us to get us there, or at least that was how it felt to us. :thumbsup:

Here is a CIC web page about certain categories of software specialists who do not need LMO from HRSDC in order to get work permits.

I'm guessing Sharron's husband is one of them.

Well, if you are serious about moving to Canada, suck it up and do it. According to people's reports on this forum, having HRSDC-approved arranged employment (which your husband easily can secure if he's in Canada on a work permit) cuts the skilled worker / permanent residence application process down from something like five years to one year. There are members of this forum who would think they'd died and gone to heaven if they were in that position.
