Default Hep B Test during medical if you have tattoo's?

Hi

I saw in a post today that someone went to Croydon for their medical and were told they needed a Hep B test if they have tattoo's to see they haven't been infected from the needle.

Can anyone confirm if other DMP's do this also?

Thanks

Helen

Here is a quote from the medical officers handbook:
"Question 8: HEPATITIS

When there is a history of hepatitis, the details from the applicant should include the date and type of hepatitis.

"Note: If the applicant is NOT excessive demand exempt, then the results of serum AST and ALT should be provided. If these are abnormal, then a specialist’s report including hepatitis C antibodies and hepatitis B surface antigen should be provided."

When I had my medical the DMP saw that I had 2 tattoos, but said they were not a problem because they had been done professionally. She did note the fact but there was no comeback and I didn't have to have a Hep B test. Having said that, I was going through the spousal sponsorship route and may have been excessive demands exempt.

I enquired about tatoos and Hep B test for partner. Three different GMPs (2 in Midlands, 1 London) all confirmed that if you had tatoos you'd have to have a Hep B test on top of the usual blood tests. This information was not volunteered, I had to ask specifically.
