Default HELP PLEASE!!

Hi, I have read through all the threads on here and I am so confused. i dont know quite where I am going wrong. The situation is this - I've wanted to migrate to Canada for quite some time after a few visits, now I have been redundant for nearly 3 months I have the perfect oppourtuntiy and excuse to move over. I was born in Britain and would like to perhaps do a driving job in Canada although I do have a Foundation Accounts Qualification and Advanced Business Qualification. I just dont have the foggiest where to start. I am 22 Years old and and not sure what I should do apply for jobs - go into training or??? Many Thanks

If you've got the funds how about taking an accountancy BA course in Canada?

Maybe a bunac visa, go to wiki at top or do a search, as I am not familiar how it works. It will get your foot in the door

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Your best bet is to start reading the Wiki (on blue bar at top of page), this page is a great place to start.....................http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Quick_...an_Immigration Hopefully this should give you a clear overview of the immigration options available to you and you can figure out which visa route you qualify for.

Bunac is definitely an option, but that only gives you a year there. But you can try and upgrade it to Permanent Residency once there.

Or a study permit is another good option, as cserpent suggested, but it can be very expensive (you have to pay international tuition fees and also have proof you can support yourself whilst there). You can only work 20 hours a week on campus on a study permit, so you can't really plan to support yourself.

For any other visa, you'll need more qualifications and experience - most of them involve getting a job offer, and not only that but your potential employer has to prove they've advertised the job across Canada and been unable to find a Canadian willing, or able, to do the job. At the age of 22 it's going to be incredibly hard to find an employer willing to do that, plus there are so many Canadians out of work at the moment that the chances of you being the best qualified for a job are fairly remote. Unless you have specialist skills of course - you don't say what you do for a living?

What kind of 'driving job' did you want to do? Do you mean truck driving?

Also, you say that you have the perfect opportunity to move over now that you are redundant, but in all likelihood it will take you at least a year (or even two) to get over there so be prepared for that.

Best of luck, have a read of the Wiki and then you can shout with any questions about the route you want to take.

Hi all, and thank you all for your help - I would be going there to do make something of myself. I was a Sales Manager for an electronics company that went bust in May. I wouldn't mind driving a truck and BUNAC are unable to help me until December. I am prepared to go the long stretch, without work I would be able to support myself from 6months to maybe a year tightly. I have tried to look at applying for a temporary work permit through other means, I know a few people in Alberta but whether they would sponsor me is another question. I will re study the wiki link you have sent me. Many thanks

To be a truck driver you'd need 3 years of class 1 experience, so that wouldn't work as you haven't mentioned that you have any experience?

As for your friends in Alberta, they may be of some use but remember that they'd still have to advertise the position nationally across Canada and only if no Canadian qualified, or able, to do the job applied would you be able to get a Temp Work Permit.

Bunac is probably your best bet by far, I know you won't be there until next Feb at the earliest, but even a Temp Work Permit will take at least 6 months to sort, and that's if you find a job straight away.

Good luck and happy reading!
