HELP! New rules? When did this happen??

Hello.

Me and my girlfriend were about to post off our applications for becoming independent
immigrants, and I find out that a new points system has sneaked its way into force.

I keep finding conflicting info on the points required. The CIC site says one thing,
the CHC UK site says something else.

I (obviously) don't wanna waste our 2 x £350 application fees if we fall short on the
new points system! We got 71, and we'd need 80 now (according to CIC).

Can someone please help us, and tell us what's happening? This could seriously screw
up our plans!!

Thanks,

Andrew.

Becareful about the new point system. As u r about to apply, the new points system
will apply on you definately. Let me describe it briefly: In the previous ysytem,
one required 70 out of the posible 110. Under the new system, one requires 80 out
of 100 keeping in view the following also: 10 points for Arranged Employment -
very difficult to get 4 points for French: In other words u requiure 80 out of 86,
very mean LAW

Unless a decision or interview completed by 28/06/02, the expected date of
promulgation then you will have to meet the new Regulations, namely 80 points. That
is if there are no major changes. You may want to check out the new Regulations at
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/coming/new-regs.html.

The reason that the London site is different is that they have to work under the old
Act and Regulations until the new ones become law.

You should get an assessment against both systems. You should note that = the new
system is not final yet. Perhaps waiting for a month or two = while it works
itself out. =20

As of now the rules are to be retroactive though there seems to be a lot = of
pressure now. =20

If you do apply now, you may want to take copies of the contratictory = information
in the sites. =20

--=20 Good luck,

Can I ask you not to sound so discouraging? Canada has a MASSIVE shortage of skilled
professionals (especially in IT with over 400,000 unfilled vacancies). In short there
are simply more jobs available than people to perform them.

In the current situation (with the new law et al), the situation is likely to
exacerbate as the situation becomes EVEN more desperate for employers. In this
environment the Original Poster is even more likely to find arranged employment
unless he comes under some unskilled occupation.

I'm pretty sure that when this new law passes, more employers will make use of
Arranged employment to ensure that they're able to find people to do jobs that they
cannot find Canadians qualified to do.

Please do not be so negative.

Andrew:

My personal advise is to apply with your gf as soon as you can, the new system won't
come into effect in some months and there is still the possibility of having changes.

Anyways under the old system nobody is 100% sure they will succeed.

Oficios,
