Default Help needed

Hello looking for some advice please. We have just come back from exploring Ontario and have decided on Peterborough to try to move to. My partner had interviews over there and has been given the security that he can have a job no problem at all in whatever area he chooses as the company are wide spread which is fantastic.
They have said to get a work permit and then get back in touch once thats sorted and we can progress.
We don't seem to have enough points for a work permit as he trained for the last 10 years on the job. Apprenticeship was on buses rather than trucks and for proof of funds we would have but would need to sell the house before applying which we hoped to avoid instead preferring to have our visa in place first.
Should we try to get the job offer through ILMA they said they have done in the past but was a lot if hassle for them.
Looking forward to our adventure anyway had a great time apart from the driving which really opened our eyes 😐

Ah. That's where it all goes wrong! There is no way at all of getting a work permit without the company's help, it's just not something that you can do on your own I'm afraid.

I think you're confusing two routes. The above is for a Permanent Residency application, not a work permit application.

No, because you can't get a work permit without a LMIA.

Tbh, if your OH doesn't qualify for PR now without a job offer, and the company won't apply for the LMIA, then there's nothing you can do and no visa he can get at the moment anyway. Your only option really is to convince the company apply for the LMIA.

HTH, best of luck.

No worries. Just checking, but what does he do, what NOC code is it? Just wanted to make sure that it's classed as skilled, otherwise you won't be able to apply for PR once there.

Also, you mention his apprenticeship being on something else, but that's doesn't matter - he'd get points for any apprenticeship if that makes a difference?

Noc 7313 heavy duty mechanic. He left school with hardly any exam results and went to College for 2 years then did his apprenticeship but has no clue as to the location of certificates never missed them as has always had a good job and trained within the company. If we fail to get the job offer in writing we did look at him doing the journeyman exam first and that would give us the required points. Just wasnt sure what was the easier option as if company did LMIA he could just sit exam once over there.

He doesn't need to know where they are, he can get them sent from the issuing body - he'd need to do that with the transcripts anyway, so whoever was the examining body from his apprenticeship will provide them.

Sorry you will be fed up with me soon haha we did the visa calculator and thought we needed the extra points for the work permit but now I'm thinking we are looking at completely the wrong thing. Will need to do some proper research to look at the work permit criteria

Yep, you were, there's no points required for a work permit! Make sure you only use the official calculators on the CIC website - if it's for a FSW application then it's this one, Six selection factors – Federal skilled workers, and for the CRS points it's this one, Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) - tool

You can also just use the general 'am I eligible' tool to see if you do qualify for PR now. Do you want to come to Canada as a skilled immigrant? If not, then a LMIA will be necessary to get a visa.

Not fed up at all, just trying to help you figure it out and work out what you can apply for.

If you are going through Express Entry or a Provincial Nomination Program then your other half will need IELTS, however, you don't need to take the test, but it is beneficial to do so as if you included on his application then your points will add to his.

As said above, the application will get more points if you do IELTS as well, but it's only worth doing if you are eligible to apply under EE and have enough points on the CRS to get selected and invited to apply for PR. Otherwise, spending several hundred pounds on IELTS exams will be a bit pointless if you're going on a TWP?

Sorry, but just to correct this - he doesn't need it for a PNP application, only FSW. For PNP it's only required for those in Skill Level C and D jobs, although of course it will give more points for those in skilled jobs. But it's not mandatory for PNP.

HTH.
