help on independent immigrant application

Guys, I need your help. My wife submitted her Canada independent immigrant
application to Buffalo office this Jan( I was her dependent in the application). We
got a letter this May. saying that an interview would be required in Detroit.
However, our file hasn't been transfered from Bufallo to Detroit yet. From what I
heard, it will be a long waiting time to have interview scheduled. My question is,
Can I apply as a principal applicant right now while my wife will be listed as my
dependent? My hope is that I could have interview waived(now I have 1 year + US
working exprience) and save some time. I read the FAQ part of CIC site and couldn't
find relevant information. Thank you very much. tiger1999
