Default HELP! can we still move?

Hi,

my partner and i have 2 young children and always dreamed and talked about moving to Canada. But I am in alot of debt and seriously thinking about declaring myself bankcrupt. does anyone know if i do this, will i still beable to gain citizenship in Canada if i become bankcrupt in the UK. or shall i wait til the 5 years is up?

Look forward to hearing your views.

Thanks

Rachael

Don`t worry about citizenship yet. This is just a matter of spending three years in Canada as a permanent resident.

Becoming permanent residents is what you need to concentrate on. A credit check is not a part of the application process so, if you can satisfy all the other requirements, bankruptcy should not be an issue. Note that one of the requirements to become a permanent resident, if you don`t have pre-arranged employment, is that you have sufficient landing funds to keep you going until you do get work. I think this is around $25,000.

As long as you see out your 1 year until you are discharged - especially if any sort of sponsorship is involved as it is mentioned on the immigration paperwork. After 12 months you are fine.
