Default Health insurance in Toronto

I'm going to arrive in Toronto around mid-June, and I'll pay for
private health insurance because of the waiting period to get the
OHIP.

How many days do I have to pay? I mean, will I get the OHIP after 90
days or the first day of september (the third month).

Does the waiting period begin the day I arrive or the day I request
the health card? (I want to know if I have to request it as soon as I
arrive, because I need to get one of the documents to prove my
residency in Ontario, and that will take some days).

I found a web page (Liberty Health) that offers a cheap plan that can
be bought over the internet, the URL www.coverme-service.com . Does
anybody have any experiences with them or can suggest something else ?

Best regards!

3 months from the date of arrival. You can apply at any time during
that period, but it is a good idea to do it as soon as you can. The
date you apply makes no difference.

They are as good or bad as anyone. They are a major player in the
health insurance business in Canada.

Thanks for your answer.

I read the OIHP FAQ and it says that thare are two possibilities, I
want to know which one applies to a person that just became a landed
immigrant.

==================================
case 1:

If you move to Ontario directly from another province and apply for
coverage, your OHIP coverage will begin on the first day of the third
month after establishing residency, provided you were insured in your
previous province or territory. Your valid health card from your
former province will continue to provide you with health care coverage
during this three-month waiting period.

case 2:

If you are an uninsured person moving to Ontario from another Canadian
province or territory, you will be subject to a waiting period lasting
three full months. Your Ontario health coverage would become effective
three full months after establishing permanent residence in Ontario.

=================================

I'm almost sure that case 2 applies to me, so I'll have to buy 90 days
of health insurance, but if you look at
http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/...ohip/wait.html you'll
see that the descriptions and the examples are interchanged.

For example, if I land on June 15, I will have to buy insurance until
September 15 inclusive, is that right ?

Best regards!

Yes that is correct.
