what if I apply as an Independent applicant and after that marry my Canadian
girlfriend(I already live in Canada on a work permit)? How do I keep myself in the
country while the PR application is being processed?

You will not need to apply as an Independant since you will be a spouse of a Canadian
and can apply from within Canada for landing as a permanent resident.
