This msg is for anyone interested in applying for a work permit as a
common-law partner or a spouse of a foreign skilled worker.
I'm in Canada with a study permit, and my common-law partner's in Canada
with a work permit that is valid for 1 year.
I wanted to get an open work permit so I applied within canada. (filed
change of stauts form) Many consultants told me that it would be denied
since i already have a work permit, but it was approved.
it took 10 days for them to process. (received march 3rd, and approved on
march 13th. -> vegreville)
As far as proving common-law relationship, i included a copy of joint lease,
joint bank statements, pictures from trips, a letter with timeline of our
relationship, emails to each other, etc.
It was kinda weird b/c CIC actually called my home phone number I wrote down
on the application and asked for my partner. I think she wanted to make sure
that we really live together. (i.e. my partner answers the phone when she
calls my number)

It would be interesting to know who told you that it was impossible. I
would have said that it was possible. The CIC does callin these cases
and I instruct my clients to put both names on the answering machine.
