FOSS Check v/s CAIPS Check

Hi,

I saw at multiple places references to a "FOSS or CAIPS Check"

What is a FOSS check, when does one do it, and why would one
pick one check over the other?

thanks much.

FOSS is in-Canada, basically only has documents issued and CAIPS is for
overseas processing.

Huh? Why would Canadians apply for Canadian PR or Visas?

Or are you talking about foreigners in Canada? I thought they
had CAIPS files, too. Like I know that the F* number at the top right of
a work/study permit comes from CAIPS directly.

thanks,

CAIPS is an overseas processing system only, and FOSS is an in-Canada system
only.

To add to the confusion. Sometimes Caips contains Foss notes and vice versa.
In particular if you have a file in outside of Canada the Caipsnotes may
appear in Foss but not all Caips screens. You can ask for both sets of
notes and electronic files if you have a overseas file number and a Client
ID number. Even if you only think you have a file in canada and do not have
a Client ID number you can ask if you have any record in Foss.

Hello experts,

I would like to know if there is something similar for Citizenship Issues as well. Someone told me that the CRS record keeps upto date information about a pending Citizenship application ?

Is that correct ?

thanks for all the info or all the confusion???

since im not worried yet about CAIPS or FOSS, and i hope not to have to as far as that, it's quite interesting to read how people volunteer genuinely to help others, but endup making people worry more coz they are left more confused and vague at the end compared to the begining of the thread, i imagine, Phew!
