Changes are expected to be announced on 1st July 2011. CIC has confirmed that it is likely the points system will change - more focus on age and language, less focus on work experience.

However, until then nobody knows what changes if any will be made to the in-demand list. The previous list was up for around 2.5 years, so I can't see the current list changing much after only 1 year.

Since getting a visa is normally at least a year it would kinda of defeat the object of having an in-demand list if they changed the list before any of the applicants from the previous list had an opportunity to get the visa!

So my guess is that either the in-demand list will not change, or that changes will be minimal.

However, that's just my guess. Nobody will know until CIC make an actual announcement.

Wayne.

Canada removed the only IT-related occupation (IT managers) from the in-demand list in June 2010, so IMO it is very unlikely they will be adding any IT occupations, if indeed they make any changes to the list at all.

IMO rather than hoping for the list to change, why not plan to try to get a job offer and then apply under FSW2? If you ask helcat12 or canadajimmy on this forum they are both going down this route - i.e. getting a job offer, getting it approved and then applying for residency whilst working in Canada.

Takes a lot of phoning around and you have to be prepared to take a trip to Canada for some job interviews - but it is definitely doable.

This is the route we were going to take, but had to wait until we were in the zone to be able to sell our house this summer (fixed rate mortgage). Whilst waiting for the right time, the list changed so my wife's pharmacy skills were on the list.

Otherwise we would have gone down the FSW2 route and sorted a job offer.

You will need nerves of steel and the patients of a saint if going down the FSW2 route, believe me.
Selling up and coming out here, and going through the stress of renewing LMO/work permits and going through a PR app is not for the faint hearted. Lost count of the number of nights we have lost sleep through the whole process.

Good luck with what ever you decide.

Hi Wayne,

Just curious on the above. Was there anywhere on the CIC website that mentioned this was coming up or is the info being passed around by those in process and in the "know"?

Thanks!

Jo-Anne

You have to love it, in general provincial employers are crying out for skilled workers not low skilled workers, the government ignores them...
I suspect the changes will be minimal as with all the infighting amongst the government (different country same problems) most public sector workers will keep their heads down and not want to rock the boat.

They're hardly ignoring them - a consultation took place before the last list of occupations in demand was released, and the same thing is happening now. If they're really desperate for other occupations, they've got plenty of opportunity to tell CIC!
