Fast tracking (it does exist!)

Looks like my SW application has been fast-tracked - received medical requests from CIC London on Friday. :D

I submitted proof of LMO & perm job offer a month ago, was surprised to hear back so soon. The advice given on this board so far had been spot on - especially from Andrew Miller (thanks Andrew!).

Now for the next stage….generally how long does it take from Medical requests through to PR (assuming no problems)?

Wow thats really fast. I applied SW route with AEO in September and got medical request in December which is good but not as fast as yours. Is that becuase you had LMO or just very lucky. Well Done and good luck

Bit of both I suppose, my SW application was already in (Jan 06), I added LMO in December and requested fast-tracking. Seems to have done the trick.

I have been living and working in Canada since April 2005, so maybe that helped speed things up??

LMO - labour market opinion
AEO - Arranged employment opinion

Basically job offers have to be certified by a government department (HRSDC) to verify that there's a labour shortage.
AEO is for a permanent job, LMO for a temp job.

Argh. I should have sent my arranged employment SW application to London.
I sent mine to Buffalo and it took 1 year to receive my IA. Which I guess is not too bad but London would have been quicker.
Here's advice to applicants working in Canada right now, send your application to London, not Buffalo.

Thanks Rob. I don't suppose you know whether a job offer has to be accompanied by a work permit to have any positive influence on the PR processing time do you? I presume it does, but I am not sure. Cheers, Ben

I have not had much luck with my SW application. Application sent in Sept 06 with LMO for the job that I have accepted. Got a letter from the London embassy in December stating I should apply for a work permit. After a bit of communication found out they wanted the AEO before they would put me on the fast track processing. Took a month to get an AEO - Service Canada were very suprised that the LMO was not adequate for SW application. I still have not had any further update - and no request for medical exam yet. I am not that impressed with the London office at the moment.

LMO on its own is not enough - you also need offer of a permanent job in the same job as stated on your LMO. Just to confuse things this is often referred to as arranged employement (AE), do not confuse this with an arranged employment opinion (AEO).

Thanks - have a permenant job offer, with a signed offer of indefinite term. Service Canada have issued both the LMO and AEO for the position. Hopefully the WP will arrive soon and the PR application will move on the fast track.

Stupid question probably but whats an LMO? Reason I ask is I'm on a work permit have been for two years and have a permanent job offer. Do I still need to go through all the IMM0008 stuff to get PR?

LMO = Labour Market Opinion. Unless your job is exempt, the company you work for has to apply for a LMO before you can get a temp visa.

Yes you will have to apply for PR, if you have WP and job offer then skilled worker is probably the way to go
