Thank You Maple Leaf - believe me it was worth it even though I was in the depths of despair that it would ever happen :-)

My brother is starting this process so I'm interested in hearing this and very pleased to hear that you finally have your mother with you. How old is she? ....My mother is 76 and we wonder what the medical will be like, any tips or info welcome. She wonders whether it'll all really happen for her. How did your mother cope with the wait? did she visit you often to lessen the lengthy wait?
Thanks

Hi Robin,

My mother will be 80 next April. Because we are from UK my mother was originally staying for 6 months and then leaving for a month before coming back. This worked fine from March 2003 till August 2004 when she had a major heart attack (while in Canada). After that I kept applying for extended visitors permits, which the government granted (and it was marked on the visa that she had dual intent).
My Mum had a medical in July and then they asked for additional medical tests in August along with more info from her heart consultant. I pretty much know that my Mum would fall into the M1 medical category where she had failed the medical but was still admissible.
Tell your Mum it's worth the wait - my Mum loves it here and never wanted to go back . As I said it was all worth it now that the wait is over - but believe me my Mum was getting very down about the whole process.
If you need any more info please ask

Thank you Maddhobs,

I appreciate the kind thoughts - and hang in there - it does happen - it just requires an incredible amount of patience
