Family or Canada class
Hi,
I'm Canadian living abroad and married to non-Canadian. Besides our own kids, my wife has a daughter from previous marriage. Recently I've got a job offer from Canadian company and we decided to move. Though no particular date was stated I have a good reasons to believe that the proposal would be void if I come later than summer. When I called Canadian consulate regarding PR application for my family, I was told that processing could take a year. Now, I would appreciate if somebody can answer on my (prpbably stupid) questions: 1. Can I just enter Canada with family and do the paperwork from within? 2. Would the fear of loosing work opportunity be a good reason for CIC for accepting application in Canada? (i.e. not applying from the country of residence) 3. Is it a good idea to inform immigration officer on the border of our intent? 4. Could my stepdaughter obtain learning permit while waiting for permanent visa (provided all the above is OK)? Thanks, Alex |

Yes that is permissible if you do not require a visa to enter Canada > 2. Would the fear of loosing work opportunity be a good reason for CIC > for accepting application in Canada? (i.e. not applying from the > country of residence) If you are in Canada legally you have a right to submit an in Canada application. The fact that you could lose a job wil not sway an Immirgation officers decison. > 3. Is it a good idea to inform immigration officer on the border of > our intent? Tell the truth at all times. > 4. If she is and you wife is a CDN your step daughter may be a CDN and therefore does noy require a Student Permit. The question you have not asked is : How long will it take me to obtain a work permit? The answer depends on a number of factors! > Jim Metcalfe > Thanks, Alex |

Definitly yes. Tell the truth. > 4. Could my stepdaughter obtain learning permit while waiting for > permanent visa (provided all the above is OK)? Probematic. She may not need one depending on ths school board. Also the fact that she may not require one as she is allowed to enter a education program of under 6 months. Once the aplication is approved for processing in Canada she can obtain a Study Permit. Expect delays howver unless you have everything complete and filed immediately after you arrive.
