Family of 4 to Nova Scotia? - Retrain or not?
Hello everyone, we just wrote our introduction and received a very warm welcome.
We have been lurking here and researching our relocation to Canada for the last year. Nova Scotia ticks the right boxes and we've got our first recce booked for May, to get a proper feel for the community and look at property, schools and employment prospects.
At this stage we are unsure as to which avenue is the best to pursue and could really use some guidance. One clear route would be via the Student Visa route with one of us studying and the other working via the spousal TWP.
I am a qualified Cartographer/Surveyor/GPS Tech specialist but have been out of the industry for the last 6 years. I would like to return to the industry and as I have professional contacts with NSCC School of Geographical Sciences (Cogs) based at Lawrencetown campus I am considering retraining there, to Canadian standards.
My wife is a succesful barber with UK hairdressing NVQ2 and 10 years barbering experience including 2 years managing a branch. We note that Hairdressing is a regulated proffesion in Canada but not Nova Scotia oddly. She is considering studying for the relevant Canadian certificates but does she need to?
Nova Scotias Provincial Nominee Scheme includes an international graduate scheme for those who have completed a course (of the appropriate level)
in Canada within the past 12 months. For which we would hopefully be well placed to qualify.
Another option would be to try and build ties to NS and approach via the Community identified steam but that seems a lot more vague and certainly more time consuming compared to a fixed length course of study.
Does anyone have any experience to share regarding either the student visa route or the CIS route in the Annapolis Valley, particulary any experience of contact with Annapolis-Digby Economic Development Agency? Is it possible or worthwhile to discuss our potential application with an advisor at the EDA?
Many thanks in advance.
