Default Extension to 6 month stay

I am a Canadian citizen and am currently in the process of trying to sponsor my British boyfriend as a partner. In the meantime, this year he has just been coming into Canada for under his 6 month allowance each time, then we have been returning to the UK for short breaks in between (we have done this twice and are about to do it for a third time after Christmas). We're thinking about attempting to apply for an extension this time, so that he can stay 7 or 8 months instead of 6. But the online information says we may not be eligible to get the extension. And we're wary of doing anything that might jeopardise or raise questions about our sponsorship application. Can anyone give us any information?

Thanks!

Have you already applied for his PR? If so, he should have it in about 3 months from applying anyway (assuming you've done an outland application), so you may not need to extend the visa.

Welcome to the forum btw.

Thanks christmassoompa! We're sending it off in two weeks - just waiting for the police clearance to come through. We were told by an advisor that the outland applications take around 6-9 months, so we didn't want to get caught out. 3 would be wonderful!

2-4 months seems to be about the norm at the moment. Good luck!
