Default Extending a Bunac Visa

Hi Everyone,

My boyfriend and I are moving to Toronto in the next couple of months.

We are both 22. He is an electrician, and I am a recent graduate. We looked into applying for immigration, and although Gary qualified to apply as a skilled worker, I was told by a lawyer my best bet was to get married and come in as his spouse due to the fact I have no work experience with my degree, and therefore, not a skilled worker.

The best and quickest way to get to Canada was therefore to go on the one year working holiday programme offered by Bunac. Our places are booked, and just waiting on the ACPO Police Certificates to come through now before the application goes any further.

We are hoping to extend our stay whilst in Canada and eventually obtain permanent residence.

Has anybody did this before and can give some advice??

Thanks,

Lauren.

Hi Lauren and welcome to the forum.

Have you and your boyfriend lived together for at least a year? I assume not as otherwise the lawyer would have told you you would have qualified as Gary's common-law spouse so wouldn't have had to have been eligible as a Skilled Worker anyway, but just thought I'd check!

There are lots of threads about people extending their Bunac visas - have a search in the forums, I know that there is one current one discussing exactly the same thing.

Good luck.
