Default expressed entry confusion

Hey everyone, i have been reading non stop and still confused. I wanted to apply for the Federal Skilled Trade visa, and now have been reading that you need to apply for the expressed entry way. Is that the only way now, as i dont think i will have enough points. Can you still go via the old system of the trade visa, or only expressed entry?
