Default Express Entry - Work History & volunteer jobs

Hi all,

I am filling out my Express Entry application and I'm in the Work History section. I have an 8-month full time but unpaid job I did in Canada a few years back (with an open work permit). I want to list it but there is no option anywhere to say it was unpaid: I know that volunteer positions don't count toward experience points. Should i just not include the job, or should I keep it in there and clarify the unpaid nature of the job at a later point?

Thanks very much

Hi,

Add the note (unpaid) on the job title, or si;ply explain this in the letter of explanation you can join to your application.

+1. A simple explanation in the cover letter will do the job.

Thank you people! I added it. I didn't see an option for a cover letter on My CIC but I will look into it again. Also it seems as if my points will be incorrectly inflated (the NOC code for the unpaid job was in 0-B) until they actually read the details of my application, so there may be some confusion if i am initially selected... anyway, cross that bridge when I come to it.

Once all the forms are complete, you can procede to next page, which is the list of documents to submit. There, among passport photos and criminal records etc, there is a line called "Letter of Explanation".
Good luck

This is after I get an ITA, right? As far as I can tell there are the main forms to fill out, then i sign and transmit, then there's a list of scores. I don't see a place for police checks/passport photos etc.

Yes it is after you receive the ITA. I assumed you already had one, since you were writing about filling in your application. What you are doing now is creating an Express Entry "profile".

How many points do you score right now ?
