There used to be a provision in the old laws that you could sponsor any one relative
regardless of relation if you don't have any of the above ( spouse..fiance.. mother
..father..brother .. sister.. etc) who you could sponsor regardless of the relation..
I was wondering whether this provision still exists with the new law.. ( I could not
see it on the CIC site)
Also I believe they have eliminated the fiance category..so what do you do to get
your fiance over( other than getting married and filing a spouse visa).
thanks in advance

Yes, similar provision exists in new law, see below:
TEST--
117(h) a relative of the sponsor, regardless of age, if the sponsor does not have a
spouse, a common-law partner, a conjugal partner, a child, a mother or
father, a relative who is a child of that mother or father, a relative who is
a child of a child of that mother or father, a mother or father of that
mother or father or a relative who is a child of the mother or father of that
mother or father
(i) who is a Canadian citizen, Indian or permanent resident, or
(ii) whose application to enter and remain in Canada as a permanent resident the
sponsor may otherwise sponsor.
TESTTEST
And yes, fiancée is not longer a member of family class and must apply on his or her
own merits or be sponsored on the Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds.

I suppose there is always the chance also that your fiancee may be considered a
'conjugial partner' if the relationship has existed for over a year etc.
