Hello all,

I am preparing my PR application by myself since I haven't money to hire agency to
help me out.

I have collected all the information from the web. But I am not sure if I am
right or wrong.

here is how I calculated myself. (My question is after the calculation.)

************************************************** *************************
1. I'm 25 year old = point 10

2. Education I have an associate degree in Architect = point 13

3. Occupation I have been working as a Business Manager = 10 (listed on NOL)

4. ETF Business Manager = 15 (from NOL)

5. I have an Arranged employment in Canada = 10

6. Work experience Currently 2years and 8months as a Business Manager = 4

7. Language ability Fluent in English = 9

8. Demographic factor = 8

9. I have no close relative in Canada = 0

my total points above is 79
************************************************** *************************

So looks like I have enough points but my concern is could I title myself as a
Business Manager?

because although I have been working as a Business Manager in Canada for past 2
years and 8months, my Employment Authorization says my occupation is a Marketing
Manager. I do Business Manager work and I can ask reference from my boss to prove
what I do as one.

And one more concern about my job title is, my education background isn't in
Business.

************************************************** **************************
On the web (Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management(1122))

** Employment Requirements A bachelor's degree or college diploma in business
administration or commerce is usually required. A graduate degree in business
administration may be required. Some establishments may require management
consultants to be certified by a provincial management consulting association. *
************************************************** **************************

I would be getting my work visa extended in October and my work experience as a
business manager will be 3years then.

I do not have anyone to ask about those questions. But looking at this newsgroup, I
found lots of people found useful information for their concerns and I felt it would
be the best place to ask for advice for myself.

Thank you in advance. I would appreciate your advice.

Best regards,

Elen

Elen,

It doesn't work the way you have calculated.

First of all there is no occupation "Business Manager" listed on GOL with 10 points
for occupation and 15 points for ETF factors.

Depending what kind of business you are working for and what exactly are your duties
you may be classified in the category Professional Occupations in Business Services
to Management (NOC 1122) - but only if you work for the advertising or marketing
company or management consulting company providing such services to other businesses.
Being on the position of marketing manager in the company that doesn't provide those
services to other companies will make it really hard to qualify in that occupation.
More, occupations under NOC 1122 require education in business administration or
commerce, so your education in architecture will not qualify you either. So you may
not get any points for occupation and ETF factors which will be the reason for
rejection of your application on the screening stage.

But if you have a pre-arranged employment (permanent job offer validated by HRDC)
then you will get 10 points for it and the requirement of getting at least 1 point in
occupation factor may be waived. But in such case you will have at best about 40
something points - not enough to qualify at all.

If you will be able to prove your work experience in one of Professional Occupations
in Business Services to Management (NOC 1122) occupations - Advertising and Marketing
Consultant (NOC 1122.2) or Management Consultant (NOC
1122.1) and somehow processing officer will use his or her discretion to accept your
degree in architecture (which is highly unlikely) then you may have enough
points, but it would be really a miracle...

Hi:

Your work experience and educational credentials must be consistent with your
intended occupation in Canada, otherwise you may not receive credit for your level of
education and previous work experience.

Yours truly, Ingrid Y. Chen, B.A., LL.B.
