He has no police record. I (his son) completed it on his behalf and signed it in his name. Mine was approved instantly his has not been yet. Time since application is 1 hour. What if it is rejected he needs to go to canada by air to board cruise ship. Will he never be able to travel to canada if denied. What if a mistake was made on the form?

How long will it take to process my eTA application?
An hour is nothing - they can take days to process. Hours is normal.
If it is refused, his future travel options will depend on why it was.

Hello and welcome to BE!
I'm assuming that you applied through the official channel and not a 3rd party website?
Official: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...eta/apply.html
Check to make sure your Father has a passport from a Visa Exempt country - if he needs a visa then that may be why his eTA hasn't been approved. You can read more here - use the dropdown to determine whether he needs a visa or not: Find out if you need a visa

Give it a couple of days if he should have been able to get an eTA - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...ext-steps.html
If for any reason he doesn't get approved he could fly into the US and cross the border by land in a private vehicle - no eTA required.

Does he have a British passport? Please use the dropdowns on Citizenship Canada Find out if you need a visa to make sure he doesn't need a visa if he doesn't hold a British passport - it's an 'either / or' thing - visitors either need an eTA OR a Visa. Full instructions on how to obtain a visa (you apply online) are on the same link, once you have used the dropdowns.

That's good
You can check the status online: https://onlineservices-servicesenlig...749.1455216554
Did you receive a confirmation email for his application? Just checking.. did you fill in the 'representative' part of the form and tick the boxes that you are his representative?

Though thinking about it I may have ticked the wrong box maybe at the very end I signed in his name and pressed send. I said I was his rep at the start when asked to do so.

Might be an option perhaps a bus from burlingtion VA to montreal Canada the final destination is quebec city. I am sorry but i do not see anything about a tourist visa for canada like the B2 for USA. It is probably right there in front of me I just don't understand what I am reading.

He shouldn't need a tourist visa if he is a British National (born in the UK and a Citizen) - he should be Visa Exempt

You would only be directed to the visa application page if after using the dropdowns it was determined that a visa was necessary

I was suggesting you used the dropdowns to make sure that the CODE on his passport is one that doesn't need a visa - there are 6 different ones for UK passports.

I really wouldn't worry about it. When I did ETA's for my family last year, mine and my daughter's were approved instantly, my son's and my husband's took about 24 hours to get approved.
It's perfectly normal and if he's not got any reason to be inadmissible, he'll have nothing to worry about.

i just did my mum’s ESTA (for the USA) yesterday and that had ‘authorization pending’ come back. I was concerned as I didn’t make a mistake in application, she’s 65 with no criminal record and last went to the USA in 1992.
It took about 5 hours for it to be approved. I realize this Isn’t for the ETA but sometimes they get a bit behind or there is technology issue
