eTA leniency?
Three family members will be visiting me in May of this year. Should I advise them to apply for an eTA... or should I tell them the opposite?
eTA was supposed to come in force today, after being postponed in April 2015. Now, there's a so-called leniency period. But what does this mean in practice?
If the airline refuses boarding for no eTA, would it help to point to the leniency period page on the CIC website?

I simply don't understand the indecision for the sake of $7.
eTA has not been postponed. There is a leniency period. That's not the same thing. Here's some Q&A on the topic:

At least if you tell them not to get it, and they get on, they save $21, enough for three coffees when they arrive!
The alternative, for the price of a coffee, they could be refused boarding. You could post it on here and everyone else knows to make sure they get it.
Either way someone wins.
Airline check in staff are not going to start looking up websites at the check in desk. By the time you find someone at the airport who will, the flights probably long gone. If they are going to chance it leave loads of time, arrive 6 hours early just in case.
...or it could just be easier to spend the $21!

I think the issue is that there's now confusion: people think the implementation has been postponed when it hasn't (so far!). There are some transitional arrangements in place that is all.
Anyway, today is 15 March ...

Why wouldn't they apply for and get ETA? Seems like a no-brainer to me ?
