Default Estevan, Sask Lmo job needed

I am from Estevan born and raised a canadian citizen and now me and my American girlfriend have been looking for a place in town that has an lmo so she can live here legally and we can get on with our lives. All i've run into so far has been immigration officers who basically tell me to just find a Canadian girlfriend or get married.

We have went around to some businesses who have foreign people working there but it seems like every place we go they don't have any open lmos or they are all being held for the flood of philipenoes that recently came to town. Im just wondering if anyone knows a place that has some in Estevan/Weyburn/Regina that are open. I know these things can take forever but there are people getting the philipean immigrants here within 4-6 weeks and im wondering how we can do the same thing. Any help/job openings or advice would help us alot.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you are a Canadian citizen, can you not sponsor her? If not, then you'll just have to keep trying!

LMO's are incredibly tricky to get at the moment given the current economic climate - bear in mind that a LMO requires the company to prove they've advertised the job nationally and been unable to find a Canadian to do the job, and with so many Canadians out of work at the moment that's not likely unless it's a fairly specialist occupation. What does your girlfriend do?

I've never heard of somewhere having a LMO already - thought they were all applied for individually and each LMO is for a certain individual and specific job? So don't think you'll find a company with LMO's already in place.

Get your girlfriend to read the Job Hunting section of the Wiki (on blue bar at top of page) which will hopefully give her lots of hints and tips and tell her how to go about finding that elusive job.

Best of luck.

Hi, this is his girlfriend. We were under the same understanding that you have to apply for them individually and for specific jobs, but then we talked to a government worker here in town about it, and she told us that there are group lmo applications and that is how businesses are allowed to bring in up to 10 foreigners at one time. She also told us that if we can find a business that has a group lmo that is still open, they would just have to add my name to it.

I know when my OH came over to work in BC his employer had LMO approval for 20 workers - he just had to send their details through to HRSDC once he found them.

i also live not far from Estavan..ive never seen or heard of an open LMO here..think that the phillapinoes go the same route as most people and get a job offer etc..thats how we ended up living and working here...people will apply for an LMO but it really depends on how desperate the employer is...and the jobs in Estevan are going fast because people are moving here from other provinces..

Some companies do have open LMOs for a certain amount of workers. That's how I got my work permit through Timmies. They just added me to their LMO (took about a week). I think it is mainly used for places that have a high turn over of staff and stuggle to find people willing to work there.

Depending on skill level, there may be the option of a NAFTA work permit for an American citizen.
