Default Emigrating to Canada

Hi everyone,

Happy Holidays to all! I am new to this forum, so please be gentle.

My name is Sammy and i am a 29-year-old Brit. I have over 5 years work experience working in not-for-profit sector as human resources officer and HR information system specialist in UK. I have travelled all around Europe and have been to Toronto a couple of times on work related visits. I have absolutely loved my stay in Toronto, so much so that i am seriously considering (determined to) emigrating.

I have undergraduate degree in Business and management studies, Masters degree in International management and additional Masters degree in Human Resource Management with CIPD accreditation (i believe CIPD is equivalent to CHRP in Canada).

I have visited the CIC website several times. From my research, the Federal Skill Worker programme seems to favour more of engineering or medical backgrounds. HRM is not on the list. I don’t have a family in Canada but i have good friends who i grew up with and worked with. So, adjusting is not going to be a problem.

Another option i looked into is the 12 month work exexperienceisa programme. If i get that, how easy will it be to get a job using this work permit? If i find a job how lilikelyill an employer apply to extend a work permit?

Would anyone be able to advise what are the needs for someone with HR background? Can you recommend a good job website for HR Jobs? How relatively easy or difficult is it to secure a job for someone of my background and experience? I don’t mind taking a step back in my career for couple of years. Can i convert my CIPD to CHRP (may have to take some specific evening/part time classes to meet the canadian HR knowledge)

From your knowledge, which is more favourable, the Federal Skill Worker programme or the provincial nominee programme? If provincial nominee programme is better which province has the ‘most’ need?

Apologies if i have asked too many questions. I really hope to hear from you guy

Many thanks and really really appreciate your input
Sammy

There are lots of people on here who have experience of all manner of the different routes to immigration, and there are a lot! They are a sharing and informative bunch, so you've come to the right place

Might I suggest that you go to the top Of this page to the Blue Wiki Bar, get yourself a cup of tea and hunker down for some good reading, there are links and info on all aspects of getting to Canada under the different streams. Very best of luck!
