Effect of Marriage on PR
Dear Experts ,
I got the initial assesment ( Interview waiver ) from CIC and now they are doing the background check. They asked me to do the medical after 6 months. So technically speaking I should give my medical before April 2003. In the mean time I want to get married ? CIC says to inform them ? Can I add my spouse to the existing PR ? Will it have any negetive effect to my current processing ? What is the best practice here ?
Thanks
Biran

I think you should petition your wife since she was not in the original
application...however the best way is to call/write/email the Canadian
consulate where you applied and ask them, this will bring certainty. Hiring a
lawyer will only cost you money since everything you need to know should be
answered by the consulate.>Subject: Effect of Marriage on PR

Re: Effect of Marriage on PR
Since the previous answers are pretty worthless, I will give you some real info. It would be better if you don't get married before you get your visa. Adding a wife to your petition now will just delay everything for a year or more since she will have to go through all the same security, medical, etc. that you did. This means your medical will expire and you will have to get another later on. Better if you just land single and then get married and petition for her. Overall that would likely be a faster process for you.
Hopefully a real expert will reply to your question soon.

Thanks sysclp . The problem is you do not when they will complete the background check. I think I have two more years in states. My only concern is if they will evaluate according to new rule. Now they have approved my application without any interview as per rule prior to Dec2001 . Infact my marraiage will help me as my fiancee is a language specialists with French as a major.
