EE with my family.
Good afternoon. My family and i are in the early stages of looking at moving to canada.
Just a little background information on us. We are currently living in Canada this is through the British Army. I am 34 and currently serving in the British Army my wife in 34 and is a chartered accountant. She is currently running her own accountancy business. This is so she can work around our 2 boys aged 5 and 3. We are hoping to be able to use her chartered accountancy professional qualification to provide us with the points required. I have done the quick assessment on the Gov website and it say we could be eligible for EE. Here come my questions. . Is there a test where you can get a rough count of your points? . Has anyone had any experience with converting any army qualifications into ones which will help with out application. . if we were to be accepted how long do you have before you have to be in Canada. . once you have accepted PR do you have to spend the next ?? years in the country or can move back to the uk sort your life out then move back at a later date? |

Depends what the quals are. For aircrew, directly transferable (usually quite easy to do), for trade quals, need to challenge the inter-provincial exam.

Re: EE with my family.
:welcome:Hello and welcome to BE!
You can use the official CRS calculator to assess how many points you would be likely to have (using your wife and then yourself as the Principal Applicant) - assume for the sake of the CRS calculator that you have top marks in the IELTS English tests and have had your ECA done for Educational Equivalency (not the same as any Provincial Licensing - ECA is purely academic rather than professional). Generally speaking, you want to be in the region of 440 to get an invite from the Express Entry pool.. You can find it here: Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) tool: skilled immigrants (Express Entry) Once you've done that, pop back and let us know what your points are (with a breakdown if you are borderline) - or any questions you might have. I have no idea about the Forces aspect, sorry! Regarding PR etc., once you have validated your COPR (confirmation of Permanent Residence) you have up to 3 years to settle in Canada permanently - you must reside here for 2 years out of the 5 years starting from the date of 'landing' as a PR... so plenty of time to return to the UK if necessary, to tie up loose ends. :) |
Re: EE with my family.
What level of education is chartered accountancy on the calculator. . My wife is ACA with 15 years experience. I have a level 4 deploma in management. Would this link across? |
Re: EE with my family.
Points are only awarded for academic qualifications i.e. degrees, diplomas etc. Professional qualifications such as chartership are not worth any points on the CRS system. Your wife will also need to enquire as to what she will need to do in Canada to license as an accountant not all the Canadian licensing authorities accept British charterships.

Re: EE with my family.
Thank you for your reply. This may through a large spanner in the works if they do not recognise her qualification. As this was going to be outlet major points provider. |

Re: EE with my family.
She did A levels. Then worked in an accountancy practice and gained her ACA charterd qualification. Then moved out of practice and into industry. |
Re: EE with my family.
ok so unfortunately she would only get points for high school education since A levels in Canada are considered high school. Your diploma may be worth more points but would need to do an ECA to find out.

Her ACA is a professional qualification, not an academic one and for EE purposes won't give you any points for education. As has been said, her A levels would correspond to Grade 12 in Canada. Have you considered or looked into the potential to sign up with the Canadian Forces? I recall a poster managing to do this .. might be worth a read of these threads.. paying attention to Navyboy's posts (who is one of the ones who managed it) https://britishexpats.com/forum/immi...cation-852920/ https://britishexpats.com/forum/cana...forces-906170/ https://britishexpats.com/forum/immi...forces-776904/ :) As an aside, your wife would need to get her UK credential recognised before being able to work as a Chartered Accountant in Canada. https://www.cpacanada.ca/en/become-a...al-recognition |
