I went through school here in the UK and after 4 years as an apprentice went to UNI where I got a foundation year diploma in mechanical engineering, and a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science.
Now looking at the table on this web page (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/qual-5.html) I would get 22 points for the degree and being in education for more than 15 years (assuming that regular school counts to the 15 years), However, am I also able to claim (up to a maximum of 25 points) 15 points for my apprenticeship, and another 15 for my foundation year diploma in mechanical engineering (plus another 5 for going through school)?
Can you only claim one set of points or can you add them up for the qualifications you have?

Have you checked to see if you might qualify for Australia? Australia's much more selective than Canada in terms of its requirements, but if you fit the bill, there's much less of a wait involved (closer to 1 year than 4).
Anecdotally, British people find it easier to get qualifications and skills recognised in Australia, compared to Canada.
