Default Dual Intent

Is it possible to get a temporary work permit to work in Canada and take my
family with me as temporary residents? Once we have been there for a year,
we could apply for PR from within and gain extra points for having worked in
canada. If I did any evening class, would I get more points for studying in
Canada?

Cheers

Yes, it is possible. But you will still have to apply through proper visa
post outside Canada, you cannot apply "within Canada".

As for points for education in Canada - it has to be at least 2 years of
full time of authorized (student permit) study in Canada.

Mr Miller,

My question is in same lines as that of Jez's.
Say If I am in Canada for 1 year on Work Permit but not working for 4 months
in between because of corporate layoffs. Would that get me 5 points?

No, it wouldn't. You are getting 5 points for 1 year of authorized work in
Canada, not for just being here.
