Default DRL Installation

I am planning to take my car with me during my move to Canada. It was
listed in the goods to follow list. My question is - Do I need to get
DRL Installation done prior to arriving in Canada or can I do it after
I take the car across the border into Canada.

Do these DIY kits work for installation of DRL ( I am not a big fan of
doing it myself either).

Also, my Car is all paid off, do I only take the Car Title Certificate
and (No)Recall notice.

Kindly advise.

Thanks,

Raj

All things can be done in Canada before you register your car here. But did
you check if car can be imported in the first place?

As far as title goes - you must submit the original title to US customs at
the border crossing you will be leaving US through at least 72 hours in
advance. Better call them and ask for details.

Before border crossing:-

1. DRL installation after you cross the border.

2. There is no DIY kits for DRL but Canadian Tire would install for you.

3. Title and Recall from Manufacturer.

After border crossing:-

4. To have a list of item with cost and description in Canadian dollar for
Canadian Custom

5. Pay GST and Duty at the Canadian Custom and get Form 1 ( if required )

6. Send Form 1 and registration fee to RIV

7. Install DRL, other requirement at Ontario Inspection Center and fax to
RIV

8. Have Emission Test and Safety Standard Test done in Canadian Tire or car
dealer

9. Obtain insurance for your car

10. Pay PST ( if required ) and fee to get provincial license plate at MTO
outlet store

Oh but there are! And you can buy them from Canadian Tire. About
$40-50 depending on the particular kit.

The proof is your drivers licence. You hand them that and therefore,
insurance has nothing to do with it.

Hope that helps.

Your US license has a date of issued column which will give a good
indication
of how long you have been driving. That will be your proof. In case
that you have just renewed your US DL, bring the old expired US DL as
well (remember the one they punched a hole with and returned to you?).
That way you can show the accumulated yrs of driving in the US. If you
don't have this and your US DL is recently issued, request for your
driver's history from the state DMV. They ussually have a 3/5/10 yr
driving record history which you can have for a minimal fee. This will
show the first time they issued your license. You can also used the
same driver's history (if its clean) when getting your auto insurance
as proof of good driving record. At least some insurance agent
consider it.

Hello,

Would you clarify "What is Replacing/Exchanging Driver's Licence"?. Do
we need to submit our orginal USA/Japan/South Korea Licence to
Canadian driver's Licence issuing authorties or give only the proof
how long we have driven in these countries in order to get a new
Canadian driver's licence.

Thanks in advance.
