Does a family sponsor have to be in employment?
 

Both my husband and i have been unemployed for a while though we have savings which we live on. Does a family sponsor have to be employed? Does the family member being sponsored have to be employed in order to put in an application? We live in rural scotland and jobs are hard to come by and i stay at home with my 2 young boys. My husband gets work when he can but rarely. We had income from a house we sold, and we now rent. Does that count?

First - in case of sponsoring a spouse the minimum income requirement is waived.

Second - as Canadian citizen you may sponsor spouse while still abroad. But you must sign a declaration that you move back to Canada once sponsored spouse gets PR visa and you must provide evidence supporting your intentions to move back to Canada (job hunting, house shopping, etc.).
